Description
Tamoxifen Tablets BP 40 mg is a higher dose of Tamoxifen used in the treatment of hormone receptor-positive breast cancer. It works as a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM), which blocks the action of estrogen in breast tissue, inhibiting the growth of estrogen-dependent cancer cells. Tamoxifen is commonly used as an adjuvant therapy after surgery, in the treatment of metastatic breast cancer, and sometimes for breast cancer prevention in high-risk individuals.
The 40 mg dosage is typically taken in two divided doses (20 mg twice daily) for patients requiring a higher dose, especially in more advanced stages of cancer or metastatic disease, as prescribed by a healthcare provider. Common side effects may include hot flashes, nausea, fatigue, vaginal dryness, and an increased risk of blood clots, stroke, or uterine cancer. Regular monitoring, including gynecological exams and blood clot risk assessments, is important during treatment with Tamoxifen.
